I make “Cloudy Skies” to cope with the PNW’s rainy season.

During my late wife’s lung cancer journey, she took up making stained glass art and I sort of glommed on as a way to spend time with her … and I like to collect hobbies. I learned just enough from her and the wonderful folks at Roses Glassworks to stick glass together in interesting ways.

I’ve been making versions of “Cloudy Skies” (with and without boxes) for quite a few years now as a way to cope with the rainy season here in the Willamette Valley region of Oregon.

Recently, I’ve been exploring adding additional elements to the boxes to tell a deeper story, like “Girl in the Storm” below, which has an HO scale figure of a girl with a yellow umbrella. She is surrounded by the storm, while carrying her protection with her. Because of the glass, she isn’t completely visible, but you know she is there and she is moving forward.
